Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary stretching over an area of 77 sq. km. is a famous wildlife sanctuary in Kerala, South India. This wildlife refuge includes Udumpanchola and Thodupuzha districts of Kerala. It was in 1976 that this sanctuary was created to preserve wildlife.

On your visit to Idukki wildlife sanctuary you will come across various wild animals such as boars, jungle cat, bisons, elephants, wild dogs, deer and bears. You can spot different species of snakes which include cobra, krait and the viper and quite a few non-poisonous ones also. In fact this wildlife sanctuary and park is also a habitat to a number of exotic birds which include woodpecker, black bulbul, jungle fowl, laughing thrush, myna, kingfisher and peafowl.

Apart from enjoying the unique sights of these exclusive fauna you can also bask in the deciduous and evergreen forests enveloping this wildlife park. The flora at this wildlife park comprises of dense forests that boast of tropical evergreen forests, tropical semi-evergreen forests, meadows and leaf shedding forests. Some of the very common trees found in this region include white pine, kuntherekkapine, vayana, bhadraksham, pali, cheeni, rosewood and meadows of rolling grass. Not only this, the Idukki wildlife sanctuary trail is dotted with steep mountains, valleys and hills. And the artificial Kizhakkilachimala Lake adds sparkle to the beauty of this hilly sanctuary.

However, from Idukki wildlife sanctuary you can easily move to Idukki Arch Dam which is very closely situated to it.
