Nizam's Museum

The museum also features the wardrobe of the sixth nizam, a 150-year-old manually-operated lift, and 200-year-old proclamation drums. Among the exhibits at the museum include a golden throne, a miniature replica of the jubilee hall, a glass inlay painting of osman ali khan in which the nizam appears to move so as to face the visitor from all sides. There is an interesting collection of models made in silver of all the prominent buildings of the city and citations in Urdu about H.E.H. The museum showcases the gifts and mementos presented to the last Nizam on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations in 1936. A 1930 Rolls Royce, Packard and a Mark V Jaguar are among the vintage cars displayed.

The museum was opened on february 18, 2000 by the Nizam Trust to the general public. The seventh nizam established the osmania hospital, the osmania university, developed modern roads, railways and laid the foundation stone for the airport in 1936. In the context, Nizam's museum, which today boasts of 13,000 coins in Hyderabad, holds a great significance. Except for coins there was no other fact to prove that they had ruled. We can know about the religious beliefs of different rulers and the metal content of these coins which would also tell us the relative prosperity of the people of that time," said Mohammed Safiullah, the historian. The museum is open between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm on all days except Fridays. 2 Km from Charminar and 1 km from Salar Jung museum. The second Nizam of Hyderabad acquired a palace around 1750 and made it into a museum with a breathtaking collection of antiques
