Mogalarajapuram Caves The Mogalarajapuram Caves in Vijayawada is one of the prime attractions of Vijayawada. The Mogalarajapuram Caves is popular for the three cave temples in the caves. Located on the banks of River Krishna, Vijayawada is a picturesque location which is bordered by the Indrakeeladri Hills. About 5 km from Vijayawada are the Mogalarajapuram caves having three cave temples, dating back to the 5th century AD. Out of the 3 cave temples built here only one is still in better condition with the idols of Lord Nataraja, Vinayaka and others.
These have three cave temples, dating back to the s5th century A.D., one of which is well preserved. It contains the idols of Lord Nataraja, Vinayaka and others. One among the three cave temples adorns a spectacular carving of Ardhanariswara, which is believed as the only one of its kind in South India. These cave temple have carved deities of Lord Vinayaka and Lord Shiva in Nataraja form. The uniqueness of the Mogalarajapuram Caves lies in the Ardhanareswarar Murthy that was found in the cave temples. One of the three temples is still in a good condition. People from the Stone Age settled along the banks of the Krishna River. Out of the 3 cave temples built here only one is still in better condition with the idols of Lord Nataraja. |
