Vijayawada TEMPLES ............................................................................................................................................................................ Malleswara temple There is a pillar and a slab within the temple. The pillar contains admirable inscriptions. This place is ideal if you are interested in visiting temples. Apart from the renowned Kanakadurga Temple, there is yet another beautiful temple in Vijaywada. Lord Mallikarjuna is known by the name of Malleswara in the Puranas. It is the Malleswaraswami Temple which is well worth a visit.
The idol inside the shrine is believed to have been installed by Yudhishthira (the eldest brother of the Pandavas) to commemorate their victory in the South. Legend has it that the idol was installed by Yudhishthira, the eldest of the five Pandava brothers. He established it to commemorate his victory in the south. Even in the ancient Hindu religious texts - the Puranas, he is referred to as Malleswara. In fact this monument is of immense historical as well as archaeological value and so the Archaeological Survey of India has taken the responsibility of preservation of this temple ever since 1921. |
