Salar Jung Museum
|
The museum boasts of a
collection of 40,000 items, which have been accumulated from
every possible place in the world. The historic Charminar,
Jama Masjid, High Court, State Central Library and the
Osmania General Hospital are all within a radius of one mile
from the Salar Jung Museum. Located in the magnificent city
of Hyderabad, Salar Jung Museum was established in the year
1951. The museum also remains closed on al public holidays,
visit the mesmerizing Salarjung Museum any time between 10
am to 5pm. the museum is open on all days of the week
excepting Fridays.

The museum was a noble attempt
of Nawab Mir Yosuouf Ali Khan Salar Jung III, former Prime
Minister of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, who wished to
take the priceless collection on a much larger platform. It
is one of the best galleries with a collection of more than
300 clocks. The major attraction of this museum is a musical
clock, which was sold by Cook and Kelvy of England. The
collection was shifted to its present building in 1968. He
spent considerable portion of his wealth for collecting
them. It is believed that he spent a substantial amount of
his income over thirty five years to make this priceless
collection, his life's passion. It all started with his
father and grandfather. |

There are 19 galleries in the
ground floor and 16 galleries in the first floor of this
museum. The galleries have an enormous collection and it is
near impossible to cover the entire Salar Jung Museum in
Hyderabad in one visit. This art museum has an incredible
assortment of various antiques and curios, ranging from the
rare sculptures, illuminated Korans, astrolabes, books,
jeweled swords and daggers, Persian carpets to the antique
objects of the Salar Jung family. The ground floor has 20
galleries and the first floor houses 18 galleries that
exhibits different subject. |

This museum has the greatest
collection of rare antiques and knick-knacks from all over
the world. One needs to devote an entire day for touring the
museum itself. The semicircular building with houses in
total 38 galleries that are spread over two floors features
only a small part of e original collections. The Indian art
is exhibited in an assortment of stone sculptures, bronze
images, painted textiles, wooden carvings, miniature
paintings, modern art, ivory carvings, jade carvings,
metal-ware, manuscripts, arms & armor etc. |
