Hussain Sagar Lake
|
The Lake is bordered by four
major spans of greenery, Indira Park in the east,
Sanjeevaiah Park in the north, Lumbini Park in the south and
a green belt stretch squeezed in between the Raj Bhavan road
and the Necklace Road. On the tributary of the River Musi.
Hyderabad and Secunderabad are the two cities that are
connected to each other by the Hussain Sagar Lake. The Bund
is adorned on one side with 33 statues of the great
luminaries of Andhra Pradesh. They seem to be a silent
witness to the changing colors of the city.

The 16 meter tall, 350-tonne
monolithic gigantic sculpture rises high from the calm
waters of the scenic Hussain Sagar Lake. The statue is
entirely made of white granite, finely sculpted and stands
grandly on a wide dais amidst the glistening waters of the
lake. It is a sprawling artificial lake that holds water
perenially. The sports range from boating to water-skiing,
para sailing and cruising in motorboats. |
|
The Hussain Sagar was built on
a tributary of the Musi river by Hussain Shah Wahi during
the reign of Ibrahim Quli Qutub Shah in 1562. Standing on
the Tank Bund at night, one is awe-struck to see the
glimmering row of lights outlining the lake that looks like
a diamond studded necklace. This is the necklace road that
enhances the beauty of Hussain Sagar, on which stands the
18-metre high and 350-tonne monolith statue of Gautam
Buddha. It provides the continuum between history and
contemporary as it connects the culturally disparate cities
of Hyderabad and Secundrabad. |
 |
|
It is about 18 M high and it
can be seen from almost any place in the area. It was
transported from the city on a barge and during the
transportation of the statue the barge sank killing eight
people. During the rainy season especially, the aroma of the
freshly roasted maize corns pervades the air and beckons any
passerby to halt and take a bite.
The yatching and sailing clubs at the lake are active and
the annual regatta draws a good number of sportspersons and
lay people alike from all around the country. |
